Monstera
I’d like to think of my studio and home to be a shelter for plants and sometimes even animals. Both my mother and grandmother had this typical lifesaving syndrome too. All living beings, that people bring along, are always taken care of. As a result I have a collection of beautiful ugly plants which have grown into strange shapes and directions. And although I do have a Monstera this particular monstrous leaf was donated by a friend.
Chemistry
The blueprint chemicals I used were, as you might say, polluted. I did not use a clean brush on purpose and the mixed A+B solution was already a week old. Therefore the white parts are not completely white. For this Monstera I used kozo paper. It is handmade in Japan. Lightweight and it stays strong even when wetted. Kozo (Mulberry) bark became a cultivated plant used especially for paper and cloth making.
About Framing
This custom made wooden frame has elevated clarity glass creating 20mm distance between the glass and the artwork. The clarity glass protects the artwork without doing harm to the tangibility of the beautiful Japanese Kozo paper.
